The year 2020 has been troubled in many ways. The pandemic, added to protracted emergencies in some countries or to new humanitarian crises that emerged in 2020, has disrupted the lives of millions of children around the world.
The unprecedented increase in the number of children in need of humanitarian assistance has already been observed before the pandemic, COVID-19 has only worsened the situation. UNICEF has launched its never-before-launched emergency fundraising appeal to provide essential support and services to more than 190 million children by the end of 2021.
Today, thousands of children could die every day if the pandemic continues to weaken health systems and disrupt routine services.
Following movement restrictions and school closures, children in the poorest countries have lost nearly 4 months of schooling since the start of the pandemic.
Quel est votre objectif ?
Some facts that persist even more due to the global pandemic:
By 2021, there will be more than 19 million conflict-affected children in the Middle East, who like Batoul will need assistance and protection .
By 2021, 93.3 million children, like Mai Ra, will need our support to get the education they deserve.
By 2021, more than 27 million children will need to be vaccinated against deadly diseases, such as measles or tetanus .
By 2021, 6.3 million children with severe acute malnutrition will need our help
UNICEF France has mobilized in the field to provide access to water and hygiene and strengthen the protection of children and families living in precarious housing in partnership with Action contre la Faim. With the Emmaüs Connect association , they help to finance the purchase of computers in order to equip families in very precarious situations and thus allow the educational continuity of their children. With its campaign "Hear their cries" , launched in March in conjunction with the collective NousToutes, association raised awareness of violence against children, recalling 119 is the emergency number to call to report this violence during and beyond confinement.
With your support, UNICEF will be able to intervene in the areas of these matters. UNICEF plans to act on the ground to come to the aid of the most disadvantaged children and thus, allow them to grow, to flourish, and to offer them a future that will allow them to fulfill themselves and to become the adults of tomorrow!

In Venezuela, for example, more than a million children are already out of school and a million more students are at risk of following the same path.
The number of children living in multidimensional poverty increased by 15% to around 1.2 billion worldwide . Economic instability and disruption of services are also threatening decades of progress, especially in the fight against malnutrition. For example, Yemen has seen an increase of almost 10% in cases of acute malnutrition .
Conflict, climate change and economic instability are also pushing huge numbers of children out of their homes . More than 30 million children have been displaced by conflict, and the number of countries in violent conflict is the highest it has been in the past 30 years. In the center of the Sahel, more than one million have fled armed conflict and insecurity, an increase of 64% compared to 2019.
